How did I even get here?

15th January, 2021—I got an email with my contract. I'd been hired as Lead, Brand and Communications for a Fintech.

Sweet catch? It was 100% remote.

Before that letter, I'd always thought it was technically impossible to run a brand role remotely. It didn't make any sense to me. It still doesn't, but here we are.

Again, that's not the point of today's Jour—nnal.

Few minutes ago, I walked into the house and, for the first time, met my CEO, CTO and COO. Sweet stuff, innit? I blended right in.

Actually, I'm still blending.

The team is a superstar team—crazy set of talent tbh. You can imagine how I want to feel—reserved and like an impostor. I already felt it anyway. There's nothing you can do about it.

Then, I asked myself—"How did I get here?"

6+ years of brand experience, a successful political campaign, multiple international projects, Associate/Contributor to one of Nigeria's top three brand agencies, Front-seat Contributor to DearDes!gner, Community Lead at Asa Coterie, running a design agency and multiplying revenue by x3 in 12 months, amongst others—that's how I got here.

They are superstars—yes. I am one too! I'm a freaking superstar! Maybe not a star, may be a whole fuckin' planet.

Okay, let's calm down. Let's stick with superstar.

Whenever you feel not enough, or like an impostor, be like me and ask yourself—"how did you get here?"

Was I lucky? Yes!

Was I worth it? Abso-fucking-lutely.

Can I do my job well? Yes!

Have I done it before? Hell yeah!

Am I feeling small and like an impostor? Yes

Is it normal? Yes.

Will it last? Obviously not

What do we do? We meuvvvvve
