Showing up vs showing off
Today won't be long.
It also isn't about consistency. It isn't about me even. That bit is a lie actually, it is about me.
I'm watching The Voice S20—with Kelly, Nick, John & Blake—and the thought of having a design competition came up again. I'm not a fan hence the reason I keep throwing the idea out.
But something else stuck out for me.
Everyone who comes to The Voice has to show off. They need to stretch their cords, touch their limits, impress the coaches.
It's not bad to show off—it's never been. You just have to ensure it's valid.
I wrote a cover letter yesterday and I said "in this role, what I bring to the table is a pragmatic approach to balancing design, leadership, business, marketing and brand."
It's not just talk tbh. I really do have that approach.
But there's a catch, to show off, you have to had shown up over and over again. You can hit that high note effortlessly, only after doing numerous times before.
That win you want? The one you'd really like to show off?
Show up for it.
Good night.
