Don't lose yourself

Hey Praise,

I'mma go straight to the point today. Too tired to tell you a story, but I'll tell you one ... for new times sake.

Get it?

Lol. Such a dry joke.

I have a positioning goal for my personal brand, to have no direct competitor for what I do—well, I used to.

No! This doesn't mean that there won't be someone who writes newsletters or holds event. It means that the experience and value I give can only be gotten from me.

I ruled it out, because all my reading taught me that, you can't truly be different in what you offer, and it shouldn't be the crux of what defines your brand.

For your information, this remains true.

But you see, positioning does so much more for retention and customer experience than it does for sales, marketing and every other touchpoint.

Fact is there is no-one.

Yes, for sure, someone does YouTube. Some other persons do workshops. Some hold premium mentorship clubs, etc.

But no-one creates an entire end-to-end design education experience like the Futur.

You know what else is true?

This positioning was built from the brand's experience with the audience. They grew into this, and it is why it's such a perfect fit.

So, what does this mean for you?

Stop finding "different". Find "true"—I call it authentic. Do what makes you, you. Do it consistently. Do it with time and diligence. Do it, and you'll grow into "uniqueness".

What customers refer to as unique is simply a bias in their head that convinces them that there are no alternatives out there.

Do. Do extra. Do single. Whatever makes you feel alive; whatever makes you excited everyday. Do.

Two books that blow my mind on this topic is "Start With Why" by Simon Sinek and "Good to Great" by Jim Collins.

However, the misconception that people have reading the book is that why you do stuff must be unique. They forget that a brand is made up of why, how, what and to whom.

One can be similar, all four cannot.

Ideas are not proprietary. What makes them unique is the execution—shaped by the experiences we've been exposed to over the duration of our lives.

Me? I do what I do to help people create well.

I should find a better word for "create". I'll grow into it somehow—like my advice said. Lol.

So, you, right now, why do you do what you do?

PS: Money is a valid answer. Passion is too.

I'm on my way home, right now. It's 6:36 PM.

If you see this, I'd love to read your replies.

See you soon.

Ciao.
