My first ever proposal

Sigh,

It is 4:15 AM at this time of this email. I haven't found sleep. Better put, I've hidden from sleep. I lowkey just had one of those ear-pulling, if-you-like-don't-hear-word with this woman.

She'll read this and drag me when she wakes up. Lol.

After this email, I'd be working on a brand activation plan before I go on to send over a brand identity design brief for review.

Right now, because that's why I'm writing this email, I relived the horror, supposedly, that I felt on the day I wrote, and decided to submit my first ever proposal.

I remember this because I passed another brand whose table I submitted another proposal too.

This is a memory I do not remember as often as I'd like, but it is one that reminds how far I've come.

It was a Saturday, I think. Nah ... I couldn't have been that dumb. It was definitely a weekday. At this time, I was a solopreneur. I hadn't started Neptunn yet.

It was 2017.

As I exported the document, and sent it for print, I heaved a sigh of relief—filled with a rush of confidence. Tomorrow, I was going to walk up and tell these guys why they should change their logo—more importantly, why it should be me.

My parents dropped me in front of the compound. Yes, they drove me there.

I opened the gate. I walked in. I stopped.

...

...

...

I walked out. I flagged down a bike. I went home.

I was scared naked to the bone. What was I scared about? Hearing no? Flopping my words? Nah.

I was scared of being embarrassed.

Lol.

I tried again.

This time, I went as far as actually waiting for the manager. I got tired, and then decided it was no longer worth it.

I never went back again.

Interesting take was that I eventually met the manager. The first thing that crossed my mind was, "thank God I didn't meet you". Phew.

I met over a year later. He was sponsoring an event I was designing for. We had some conversations and it just was not it.

Lol.

But yesterday, I passed by Royal Birds Hotel, my first million naira proposal. I saw their new logo and their supposed new look, and I smiled.

At the time, I was obsessed with Landor's work for Etihad Airways and really wanted to replicate it for a brand.

Royal Birds Hotel was my pick. Pity it didn't work out.

Asides that, I've had countless of failed proposals. Lol.

I'm not such a fan of failure, so I stopped.

I remember a particular proposal of mine where the client asked me what I needed that much money for at my age.

Lol.

Such fun times in retrospection.

Praise, I'm sure you agree with me when I say, growth is enjoyed in retrospection—when you can relive how far you've come.

It is why your childhood photos make you happy.

It's a good Tuesday to reflect on those silly things you did, and laugh about it.

It's a great way to start the day.

Enjoy.

Ciao.
