Figuring out delegation
One of the biggest things I have ever had to do is delegating.
Everyone focuses on how tough it is to delegate because you are scared they won't do it as well as you would. They talk about turning a blind eye and just trusting that they'll do it.
And it's true but there's a whole different reality that people don't talk about as much—communicating your ideas.
I have learned that the hardest thing to do is communicate your ideas—and it is harder when you are under pressure. I'll tell you a story.
Yesterday, I was speaking with Stark—the marketing designer at Bloc. I'd written a concept note under duress and now I had to explain it to him cos he didn't understand what I had written.
On a great day, I'd try and take it slowly—but I was rushing the words together. Asides from the fact he somewhat found a silver lining, I doubt I actually said anything.
Delegation isn't about just letting someone else do it. It is about letting them do it for you.
To communicate properly, learn the technical words, ask questions, show references, check in frequently — and don't always expect it go right the first time.
And unless you have a Stark, don't assume they understood you.
PS:
Yeah, I have 65 people saying they want to come for the bootcamp. Y'all really don't want me to win my bet.
I hate your guts.
Ciao.
