Planning antispace beta

In Q3, I spoke about a conference.

I said I wanted to host a few set of people for a few days all expense paid in November. I'd thought about this since May this year. It sounded awesome like most impulsive ideas I'd had.

Remember the documentary—that's another impulsive idea.

What's going on? Nothing, everything is perfectly great [and I'm freaking the fuck out].

Okay, let me explain.

First, it was gonna be IITA, Ibadan. Then, it was going to be for a day, few hours, in Lagos. Then all of a sudden, I find myself supposedly planning a conference in Akure.

Just to be clear, we're talking about the bootcamp here. Back to my freak-out.

I am going to try and avoid not calling out unit economics, but this event was going to pull the bejesus out of my account. And the scary part of this was that it wasn't financially wise.

I shouldn't be doing it. It makes no logical, numerical sense.

Here I am, less than a month to the D-day, I'm still going at it. Ever wondered what the heck is wrong with me? I did—yesterday.

I told a friend of mine, and his question was, "what's the ROI?" I have no idea. This is not a series of things I intend to do to achieve a certain status. Funny thing is the set of things I wanted to do, I haven't done them.

Here's what happened in the past week of active planning:

Before the week started, I intentionally didn't share on my Twitter timeline. I shared the invite on my WhatsApp, Deluxe group and with you. As of right now, we have a total of 71 people who have shown interest in attending.

I shared a registration form last week and 55 people have confirmed that they'll be coming for the event. For context, this bootcamp was supposed to be for 20 people—30 tops, if we count the Tribbe Originals. We have double. DOUBLE!!!

But like a bride on her wedding day, the worst hasn't happened yet.

The intended venue—a really nice lounge—is not proper for the event and activities we intend to have. The other option—a cinema hall—needs us to reschedule how the event will be run.

We have to reach out to the Police because a high concentration of young people whose devices are mostly Apple and would likely be with laptops is code for "police harassment". The brief is pretty clear. "Please, don't harass us. We're legit. Also, have our back."

Yes, accommodation. There were activities planned during your stay in the hotel. So we've recently had to draw up a list of hotels in the area whose rooms we've decided to rent out for the two nights. This is not really scary, cos Akure is pretty cheap.

Feeding! This is sorta covered cos we've got HTML Foods. I should talk to them soon about it.

Okay, I'm not freaking out anymore.

Writing it down made it feel so easy. Phew!

Well, it's happening—my final act of the year. {evil laughter} ... just kidding.

And the documentary?

It's still happening ... but it's going to take time—a lot of it. It's the one thing I cannot afford to rush. Lol.

For those coming, see you in 3 weeks [or four].

Ciao.
