What does small mean to you?
It's common sense to start small but that's not the discourse for today's letter.
On my flight back home on Wednesday, I remembered a conversation with a gym instructor 4 years ago. No! I didn't apply for a gym membership. Now that I think about it, I never have.
He shared a scenario about effort and consistency. He said:
If I asked you to wake up every day at 5 AM and do one push up for three months, you can do it. But you won't build muscle, if that's your goal. What you'll do however is get used to waking up at 5 AM.
To build muscle, one push up isn't enough.
Here's how I processed it. When you want to start small, it's good to gauge the right amount of small. Too small won't get you anywhere. Here's an example. You want to learn web and app design. Small could be reading at least one paragraph on UI/UX every day. Yet, reading alone won't get you anywhere in your chosen career.
If you don't combine reading and practice in your small start, you won't particularly get anywhere tangible.
This thought reminds me of a definition I heard one time about MVP. It defines the Minimum Viable Product as any successful execution of an idea that required the least possible effort.
Your output determines "your small". Start small the right way.
