Teni makanaki or zlatan ibile?
"Overthinking nor fit solve problem. Better days are coming, ma wo be. I can't come and kill myself, make another man come chop my sweat" amongst other things is what the great Zlatan shared in his song "Ale Yi".
"Nor be pride, no be ego; sometimes I gats change my mind; sometimes I gats dey behind; sometimes I will have to say no; sometimes I gats pour water on top my head make this pressure nor drive me insane o; so if you see me outside and I no greet you, no vex baba, my head e full o", says Teni Makanaki in her song "Hustle"
On one hand, you're tired and probably burnt out; you're not sure if this is going to pay off the way it's supposed to.
On the other hand, you're trying to get it through. Everyday is always the toughest. You are doing new things, and old things no longer seem right unless done to a certain standard. You can't meet that standard because you're tired and burnt out.
Multiple junctions of introspection where you wished you didn't start this journey. You don't know what the alternative would've looked like but "anything else is better than this".
Today's a Wednesday and dang it, there it is again! Waiting for you to get up from bed and wear it like an armour through the day. Every client you speak to, every tweet you make, every person you talk with, you do it with the armour of not-feeling-enough.
And when you end the day, you slump on your bed feeling out of touch with reality or you distract yourself with Netflix and social media. Is there alcohol? You drink yourself to numbness.
You are not depressed. You're just tired—not of life, of yourself. You didn't make good decisions. You made good decisions, but didn't execute it well. Things didn't go like they are supposed to.
Here's what I think Teni is telling you.
It's right for you to feel this way. You are allowed to disappear and just be by yourself. You can flog yourself the emotional whip without mercy. You can spend hours in the shower—not thinking of ideas, but enjoying the one time you feel anything close to relief.
And here's what Zlatan is saying.
No matter how deep you sink, if you don't swim, you'll never see air. And that everywhere is blue doesn't mean dry land doesn't exist.
So, Praise, what's it going to be?
Teni or Zlatan? Teni, then Zlatan? Or just Zlatan?
Enjoy your Wednesday.
